Thought I would start a blog about a subject I enjoy most, sports!

I have been a sports fan for 23 years, the first sport I ever fell in love with was hockey

one of the first games I remember watching was game six of the 1989 Stanley cup final between the Calgary Flames and the Montreal Canadiens, Flames of course won the cup that year four games to 2. my dad got me into being a hockey fan, my dad is a Toronto maple leafs fan like I am (I know god help us lol) one of my dad’s favourite players from the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1970s was Lanny McDonald, Lanny was on the Calgary Flames 1989 cup winning team and my dad was happy when Lanny got his Stanley cup, I thought it was the coolest thing the first time I seen those flames skating around with the Stanley cup I then got into watching most maple leaf games that were on TV, I also liked watching the buffalo sabres. Wendell Clark was my favourite leaf from the start and until he retired, Wendell may not have been an all-star per say, but he worked his tail off every night and that is what I respected most about him, some of the fights he had with the late Bob Probert were classics.

my childhood favourite hockey players were Wayne Gretzky,Mario Lemieux,Cam Neely,Steve Yzerman,Luc Robitaille and others

the next sport that grabbed my attention was football, CFL and NFL. I am a Hamilton Tiger Cats fan from the CFL and while the first few years of being a fan of that team was not fun at times, I have been a die-hard fan of the cats for 20+ years.

I then got into watching NFL football, my dad did not watch a whole lot of NFL ball, but he liked the super bowl and the first game I can remember well watching was super bowl XXIII, Bengals were winning late in the game and 49ers QB Joe Montana led the Niners on a late drive that led to the game winning touchdown in the Niners 20-16 victory.

I love NFL Football in general and my favourite team was the Buffalo Bills , Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas and Bruce Smith I worshipped, even though the Bills never won a super bowl, I am proud to say that the Bills made the super bowl four years in a row, something we may never see in the NFL again…

one of my worst Buffalo bills memories is when the bills were down late in the 4th quarter to the giants20-19 in super bowl XXV and Scott Norwood came on to kick the game winning field goal, I’ll never forget al Michaels who called the super bowl that year saying, WIDE RIGHT! that is the closest the bills would come to the super bowl, close but no cigar.

Joe Montana, Barry Sanders, Jim Kelly John Elway to name a few who I enjoyed watching most as a kid when I first got into NFL FOOTBALL

The last sport I got into was the game of Baseball, The Twins were playing the Atlanta Braves in 1991 world series and dad and I sat down to watch, twins won that year and I then got into watching the Blue Jays and one of my favourite sporting moments as a fan was the back to back world series titles, I remember the Otis Nixon bunt to first clear as day, I was so happy when the jays won, 1993 was my personal favourite because Joe carter was one of my favourite jays growing up and of course he hit a walk off homer to win the 1993 world series, I do not follow baseball the way I used to after all the steroid stuff, but I still follow it a bit.

so that is how I got into the wonderful world of sports.

I will blog about different subjects in football-hockey-baseball

this has been the sports junkie, signing off
